Review medications and lifestyle modifications that are recommended for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Identify the patient populations that benefit from statin therapy based on evidence from clinical trials. Apply the treatment approaches recommended in the 2018 ACC-AHA cholesterol guideline to patients with dyslipidemia. Define the role and optimal use of nonstatin therapy to lower LDL-C. Examine newer and emerging lipid-lowering by describing their mechanism of action, role in therapy, and efficacy in treating patients with dyslipidemia. Interpret results from large outcome studies evaluating lipid-lowering drug therapies, including omega-3 fatty acids and nonstatin medications used to lower LDL-C. Compare and contrast other cardiovascular drug treatments that are used to reduce risk of CV events in primary and secondary prevention patients. Examine the CV risk reduction benefits of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes. Create treatment plans for patients presenting with various lipid disorders.
