Description:
As the elderly population continues to increase and live longer, it is imperative that high quality continuing education in the care and management of seniors is available. Many physicians and other health care providers have received little or no formal geriatrics training, despite this growing trend in the number of elderly patients. Surveys demonstrate that health care professionals commonly report many challenges in providing care to the elderly, especially in the primary care setting. Further, studies evaluating standard quality indicators for the care of the vulnerable elderly show adherence that is not yet ideal. The Edmund G. Beacham Annual Current Topics in Geriatrics course will provide practical information to clinicians and other health care professionals who care for elderly patients. The course will improve knowledge about diseases and syndromes common in seniors and offer practical and effective guides to management of the complex older patient.
