From medical decisions to workplace violence, this course will offer practical information for clinicians and allied health professionals. What happens when a patient falls below an acceptable threshold of capabilities due to progressive diseases like dementia? What if a person is too young to have developed their own autonomy? Do we allow a patient without capacity to discharge home when it feels unsafe? When we are forced to choose between keeping our patient or our staff safe — who and how do we choose? And what can clinicians do to avoid burnout? This full day course will prepare participants to navigate these tough issues. Speakers will present topics and follow with a case presentation. In small groups, participants will practice skills, then re-group for a Q&A debrief with the speakers. A leadership panel will help facilitate the workplace safety debrief with an extended Q&A session. Participants will leave with new frameworks and skills to manage common moral hazards.
