Automated breast ultrasound was developed specifically to assist radiologists in the early detection of breast cancer in women with dense breast tissue. Cancers in dense breast tissue can be difficult to identify with mammography – in fact, breast density obscures cancers that screening with automated breast ultrasound may detect. The course will provide instruction on recognizing the appearance of normal anatomic structures, benign findings and breast cancer on the unique coronal view, developing a screening workflow, interpretation and reporting process, and pearls and pitfalls for screening breast ultrasound. Additionally, there will be a strong emphasis on quality assurance and quality control.
