Cutaneous infections of the face, head and neck 7. Oral ulcerative disease 8. Autoimmune mucocutaneous diseases of the oral cavity 9. Oral and oropharyngeal cancer epidemiology and risk factors 10. Clinical features of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions 11. Commercial adjuncts for the detection of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions 12. Common and significant soft tissue lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region 13. Common and significant hard tissue lesions of the oral and maxillofacial region 14. Use of cone beam computed tomography (cbCT) in the head and neck region Learning Objectives: 1. Review oral, head and neck anatomy and common anatomic variations as well as lesions or conditions with site-specific anatomic predilection 2. Describe the conventional oral, head and neck examination, including both visual and tactile components; list the physical characteristics of oral lesions that inform the patient record; and describe a follow-up protocol for oral lesions 3. Describe common and significant cutaneous lesions and conditions of the head and neck region 4. Describe the features of common infectious conditions of the oral cavity, including bacterial, fungal and viral diseases 5. List the etiologic basis for oral ulcerations and differential diagnostic considerations ranging from canker sores to squamous cell carcinoma 6. List vesiculo-erosive conditions that may present as desquamative gingivitis and describe their diagnosis and management 7. Understand the etiology and clinical features of oral precancerous and cancerous conditions and their distinction from tonsillar or oropharyngeal cancer 8. Understand the scientific evidence for the use of commercially-available adjuncts in the detection and diagnosis of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions 9. List common and significant soft and hard tissue lesions, of the oral and maxillofacial region, including associated radiographic features 10.
