Description:
This four and one half day course will provide an up-to-date review of the pathology of selected subspecialty areas of neoplastic disease, including Breast, Gynecological and Head and Neck pathology. Appropriate use of advanced diagnostic techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular pathology will be incorporated into the lectures, including the assessment of therapeutic biomarkers. Case presentations will also be integrated into some sessions. Finally, there will be optional more intimate, interactive slide seminar sessions on selected topics in Breast, Gynecological and Head and Neck pathology (registration is limited, additional fees apply). The Department of Pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center has produced a course on the Surgical Pathology of Neoplastic Diseases for over 30 years. With the 34th edition, we continue to expand the scope of the course to reflect the increasing contributions of cytopathology, immunopathology, and molecular pathology. The course faculty will include the attending pathology staff from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center along with selected visiting lecturers. Course participants will receive a complete syllabus within our new CME portal, along with digitized glass slides of cases for review. The course will be held on the campus of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a vibrant and safe neighborhood within easy access of the widely varied cultural attractions of New York City. A full breakfast and lunch will be provided daily.
Objectives Participants will learn the current classifications and diagnostic criteria for tumors and tumor-like lesions of the selected subspecialty areas, including both common and unusal entities. highlight the appropriate use of ancillary diagnostic techniques
Complete differential diagnoses will be discussed, and a practical, problem- oriented approach to the pathologic evaluation of specimens will be emphasized.
Participants will learn about the clinical features of the various tumor entities along with pathologic and molecular prognostic factors and predictors of therapeutic responsiveness.
