Participants will learn the importance of aligning the goals of a just culture with organizational codes of conduct, provider based peer review systems, and human resource policies and practices. In creating a just and accountable culture, providers and organizations will come to understand the need to create meaningful responses to the types of errors witnessed so that providers deliver optimal care, be managed in a fair and consistent manner, and receive the support they may need if harm to patients ultimately occurs. At the conclusion of the activity, attendees will be able to: *Distinguish between systems related errors and human errors *Define the three types of behavior giving rise to error *Discover steps that can be taken to assure organizational and provider accountability *Compare how the principles of a just culture are well aligned to current regulatory and accreditation mandates *Identify the need to align a just and accountable culture to the organizations mission, vision, and values This course is intended for Physicians of all specialties, Nurses, and Other Health Care Professionals with appropriate CME credit and nursing contact hours offered for each profession.   Visit the CME Course Webpage ›     Instructors: Barbara J. Youngberg, JD, MSW, BSN, FASHRM Barbara Youngberg has been a senior lecturer in residence at Loyola University Chicago, School of Law since 2009 after serving for 10 years as an adjunct professor for the Beazley Institute for Health Law & Policy. She also is the Academic Director for the online health law program. She is the author of numerous textbooks and articles on health care risk management, patient safety, insurance, risk finance, nursing ethics and health care law. Prior to completing law school Barbara was a registered nurse working in adult and pediatric intensive care units and trauma emergency departments in Chicago.
