Description:
At the completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Boundaries in Psychotherapy, Psychiatry & Counseling:

•Define boundary crossings and boundary violations in psychiatry, psychotherapy, social work, and counseling.
•Differentiate between boundary crossings and boundary violations
•Discuss the different boundaries in therapy, such as gifts, self-disclosure, non-sexual touch, home visit, home base therapy, therapy outside the office, language, etc.
•Report how enforcing rigid boundaries can be harmful to therapy.

Dual Relationships:

•Describe the codes of ethics on dual relationships.
•Apply ethical decisions making regarding multiple relationships.
•Differentiate between multiple relationships that are mandated, unavoidable and common from avoidable ones.

Digital Ethics:

•Identify the new ethical challenges that have arisen in the digital age.
•Construct a social media policy to give to clients.
•Apply a risk management lens to the process of determining the appropriateness of specific technological tools for use with specific clients.
•Learn how to respond to a online negative review, such as on Yelp.com

TelehMental Health & HIPAA:

•Learn the basics of TeleMental Health.
•Determine the elements of an ethical telehealth practice.
•Establish appropriate office policies for online/digital interactions.
•Learn about the basics of HIPAA.
•Explore the relationships between HIPAA, Telehealth and the standard of care
•Examine the Skype-HIPAA controversy.
•Conduct a HIPAA risk analysis and implement proper risk management measures that are HIPAA compliant.

Risk Management & Ethical Decision Making

•Understand the origin and types risk management.
•Explain how to minimize risk to psychiatrists, psychologists and counselors without compromising clinical integrity.
•Describe the relationships between risk management and the standard of care.
•Utilize tools to make clinical and ethical decisions with regard to risk management concerns.
•Apply ethical decision-making processes to TeleMental health, boundaries and multiple relationships.
